Renovation of duplex and simplex apartments featuring two and a half bathrooms, two bedrooms, office, gym, and outdoor terrace, including the a sky bridge of a doctor's office. This unique situation of having a bridge spanning from a duplex on 77th street to a simplex apartment on 78th street deserved an equally bold solution. We chose to make this link -- an existing bridge built in the 1930's -- a glass floored, glass ceiling surface and opened up the side of the bridge, revealing its structural form. The intention was to make the crossing a cathartic experience. One is intended to find themself between two buildings, floating 9 stories over the earth in a rather impersonal environment and take a moment to consider their place in the world. Other features were meant to play off of this central spine including a custom stainless steel and glass stair and a fireplace that appears to float in an exterior wall of glass. The owner of this space, a prominent nutrition and health doctor, uses the duplex for his residence and the simplex for his office, also lending a clean definition of the space by use.
